Tips For Sleeping Comfortably When Camping

One thing that tends to give some problems even to those who love camping is sleeping at night – after all, the hard ground and the outdoor elements are not exactly conducive to a good night of sleep, but a poor night of sleep is not exactly conducive to helping you have fun the next day! If your camping trip is only going to last a couple days, you should be able to survive a night or two of poor sleep, but not only will it feel much better to get good sleep on even a short trip, but it will especially feel great to get good sleep on a long camping trip.

One thing that will be detrimental to a potential good night of sleep is water; a lot of people make an assumption that if the weather report shows clear weather, they do not have to worry about water, but you will want to make sure you pick a spot that will not send water your way if it does happen to rain, and you will especially want to make sure the roof of your tent is truly waterproof so that you are not getting soaked while you try to sleep.

Another thing that will be important will be that you are not sleeping directly on the ground; if you are camping at a campsite that you can drive up to, an air mattress is a great way to go, and otherwise, consider using a foam mattress that will be easy to bring with you wherever you go.

And finally, going to bed when you are tired will be a big key to getting a good night of sleep when you are camping; if you try to go to bed before you are tired, you could be stuck tossing and turning all night, and if you wait too long after you are tired, your body might have already tried to start waking you up again. Getting a good night of sleep when you are camping is not difficult to do, as long as you make sure you are following these simple tips to take the right approach.

Playing Volleyball In A Standard Pool

Playing a bit of pool volleyball is a great way to spend a summer afternoon if you have a pool (or if you have friends who have a pool!), but while most people think that their pool is not conducive to pool volleyball (after all, it is a rare pool indeed that is shallow all the way across), you can still play pool volleyball in a standard pool.

In order to play pool volleyball in a standard pool, the first thing you will need to do is to set up the net so that there will be enough space for people to stand on the “deeper” side, as well as on the shallow side, without them slipping so deep that the water is above their heads. Once you have created a bit of space on the “deep end” side of the pool, use pool noodles or some other sort of pool toy to mark the boundaries of the deep end side – setting these markers along the side of the pool.

The Poolside Volleyball set.

It will be much easier for you to set up the boundaries in the shallow end than the arbitrary boundaries of the deep end, as you can simply designate the wall around the shallow end as the “out” line; you can also make things easier on the team that is stuck trying to keep their heads above water in the deep end by allowing balls that bounce off the wall and back into the pool to still be in play.

Once the net is set up and the boundaries are established, you can divide up the teams into “those tall enough to stand in the deeper part” and “those short enough to get to play in the shallow end.” With the teams now divided up in something of an “even” manner, you will be ready to start playing – having fun as you institute a new family tradition of playing volleyball in your pool!

Are Vitamin K Supplements Necessary?

Are you wondering if vitamin K supplements will help you? There are a lot of advocates of vitamin K creams and vitamin K supplements, but you’ll want to investigate before you start taking this supplement.

Vitamin K is essential for normal growth and development. It is also necessary for proper blood clotting. However, most Americans eat enough vitamin K each day that they don’t need supplementation. It is readily available in meat, dairy, and leafy greens. You don’t need much vitamin K, so you most likely get plenty from your diet.

However, some people have blood clotting issues, requiring the administration of vitamin K. This is usually prescribed as a tablet or capsule, but can also be sold as a cream. It’s best to consult a doctor as to dosage and usage. Often newborns will show signs of poor blood clotting, and will receive injections of vitamin K to aid blood clotting.

Many people take vitamin K to eliminate dark circles under their eyes, to prevent bruising, or to faciliate cancer treatments. Such self-diagnoses should be discussed with a doctor since vitamin K can interfere with other medications. Experts vary in their opinions as to whether or not vitamin K is effective in supporting cancer treatment. Studies are limited, and conclusions are not yet well supported.

You will want to discuss any use of vitamin K with your doctor if you take blood thinners or have any concerns about blood clotting. Take for instance, the case of someone who uses oral birth control pills and is already at risk for blood clots; this person should not use vitamin K, especially not for something as insignificant as circles under the eyes.

It is in your best interest to consult your physician before taking vitamin K supplements.

How To Keep Your Kids Calm In A Thunderstorm

With thunderstorm season now upon us, you are likely to find that your young children become overly dramatic when a thunderstorm hits – using the maximum potential of their screams, and even hiding and crying because of the peals of thunder – and while you can tolerate this for a while (while it might even be cute for about a minute!), you will eventually want to make sure you know how to keep your children calm in a thunderstorm. After all, kids who are crying, hiding, and screaming are only cute for a limited amount of time – and in the long run, you will come to dread thunderstorms a whole lot less if your children learn how to act perfectly normal during them!

Assure your children: If the excitement and “fright” your children display during a thunderstorm causes you to get upset, this will only further encourage them to act out each time a thunderstorm hits; instead of doing this, you should aim to assure your children that everything is fine, explaining to them that there is nothing the thunderstorm can do to hurt them.

Model the right behavior: This will go a long way in getting your children to act calmly during a thunderstorm, as children usually tend to model the behavior they see from their parents; make sure you are calm when a storm is hitting, and you will quickly find that your children are acting the exact same way.

Have fun: While some parents model negative behavior for their children during storms – exaggerating the danger of them, and causing their children to act the same way – other parents treat storms as something fun and adventurous, coming up with games and other memorable events that turn storms into something exciting (something their kids remember having fun with!) instead of something frightening.

It is very easy to raise your children so that they enjoy thunderstorms – instead of so that they are frightened (and quickly annoying!) during thunderstorms – and all it will take for your children to be this way as well is for you to follow these easy tips!

Tips For Waking Up On Time

“Waking up on time” is a struggle of wills for most people, but it is still something they are able to manage on a regular basis; for others, however – especially for those who are changing from one schedule to another – waking up on time can be extremely difficult, and if this is the case for you (for one reason or another) it will help you to know a few things you can do to make waking up on time a bit easier.

The first step to waking up on time will be going to sleep at a reasonable time; of course, “a reasonable time” will mean different things to different people, but you should have a pretty good idea of the amount of sleep your body needs on an average night, and should be able to use this to determine a proper bedtime – adding natural sleep aids such as melatonin to your night if need be, to make sure you fall asleep “on time.”

You can also help yourself to wake up on time by allowing yourself to ease into the morning; this can be accomplished by a number of things, but a couple to keep in mind are using a “sleep cycle” alarm clock – which is an alarm clock that will wake you up at your lightest point of sleep – and (if you are a coffee drinker) having your coffee programmed so that it will be ready when you get up!

And finally, think about even training your body to wake up 20 minutes earlier than you need to, as the extra little bit of relaxation this affords you will minimize your stress in the morning – thereby setting you on the path for a much better day, and making it that much easier for you to get up on time the next day, and the next day, and so on.

If you are finding that it is difficult for you to change from one schedule to another, or if you just have a hard time in general with getting up on time, keep these tips in mind, and soon you will find that waking up on time is a whole lot easier than it was before.

How To Get Reviews For Your Book

When someone reaches a point where they are trying to decide whether or not they want to purchase a book, there will be a few things that will determine what decision they make: if they book was written by someone they have read before, or if it was written by someone a friend of theirs read and spoke highly of, they are likely to pick up the book; or, if they have not heard of the author before, they are likely to look at the reviews, and may purchase the book if the reviews are good. Of course, as an author, you will have no control over what the reviews say, but you need to realize that readers are more likely to write a review for something they did not like than for something they liked, and bad reviews can quickly scare away readers – so it is important for you to also know how to rally those who enjoyed the book to also write reviews!

The best thing you can do to encourage readers to write reviews is to include a note to readers in the early pages of the book, thanking them for choosing your book, and encouraging them to write a review when they finish reading.

Of course, if you have already written your book – and it has already been published – you will not be able to take that step, but if you have a website, you can also make sure you encourage readers on the site to write reviews by reminding them every so often.

And just as Twitter is one of the best things you can use these days in promoting a book, it is also one of the best ways to rally readers to write reviews; devote a bit of time on Twitter to rallying readers toward writing reviews, and you will be surprised by how quickly the reviews begin to pile up!

There are lots of different things that will determine how well a book does, but reviews are certainly one of the big things – and when you follow these tips, you will be able to get the reviews to start rolling in!

Sprucing Up Your Garden With A Retaining Wall

A retaining wall can be a great way to spruce up the look of your yard or your garden without having to spend a lot of money or doing a big overhaul of your entire yard. And if you know what you are doing, you can put in a retaining wall yourself that looks great and lasts for a long time!

A true retaining wall will be made of cement blocks or rocks, but if you are wanting something that is purely decorative, you can also use bricks as an alternative. No matter what material you use for your retaining wall, the steps that you will take will all be the same.

Before you do anything else, you will need to mark the area where you will plan to put the retaining wall; after you have decided where you want the retaining wall to go, you should use white chalk or spray paint to mark the line you want it to follow, and then you should measure the length of the line.

Check out these awesome landscaping ideas and plans!

Now that you have the area marked off and the measurements in hand, you can buy the materials (the cement blocks, the rocks, or the bricks) in the proper quantity, and you can dig a trench along the line where the retaining wall will go. Of course, you should make the trench wide enough to fit the materials you plan to use, and it should be deep enough to mostly cover the first layer you plan to put in.

Once the trench is dug, you are nearly ready to put in the wall; the only step left is to cover the bottom inch or two of the trench with crushed rock, which will help to make the base of your wall firm and level. Finally, you can start layering the materials for your wall on top of the crushed rock, and in no time at all, you will have a beautiful retaining wall in your yard!

How To Keep Your Energy When Hiking

If you enjoy hiking, you know how much fun it can be to get outside on a pleasant day and hike for a few miles through the woods – but if you have ever had an experience where you felt yourself tiring far earlier than you wanted to, you also understand that it is important for you to keep your energy levels high while hiking. In addition to being a lot more fun when you have energy during your hike, it is also much healthier, as you will be protecting yourself from pushing your body further than you should be pushing it.

When it comes to keeping up your energy when you are hiking, the first thing you should do is the most obvious, but because of this, it is also the most often overlooked; when you hike, you should take frequent breaks to rest your legs – and this means that you should take breaks before you start to feel tired, rather than waiting until you get to be so tired that you have no choice but to stop!

Another key to keeping up your energy is replenishing your body; when you hike, you will be losing fluids and calories, and if you wait until you start to feel sluggish before you try to replenish, it will be too late, so get in the habit of eating and drinking even when you don’t feel like you “need” to, as this will leave you in much better shape as far as energy goes.

And one thing that many people do not think about, but that makes a big difference nonetheless, is protecting your eyes from the sun; wear sunglasses and a hat when you walk, and this will keep the sun from beating into your eyes all day and making you feel tired.

Make sure you are sticking to these tips whenever you go hiking, even when you do not feel like you “need” to, and you will find that you have a lot more energy for your hike, and that your hike – in turn – will be a lot more fun.

Benefits Of Online Banking

When it comes to money, it is always good to be able to keep track of yours all the time. While keeping track of your money used to require you to write down everything in the register of your checkbook and then waiting to receive your once-a-month statement in the mail to double-check everything, things have become much easier. You now have the option of checking your account whenever you want by using online banking. But there are more benefits to online banking than just the convenience of checking your account. Here are a few things to consider if you do not currently use online banking yourself.

One of the scariest things that can happen is for someone else to get their hands on all your valuable information. Naturally, you will want to make sure you know right away if someone is accessing your bank account! If you only receive a statement by mail once per month, it will take you much longer to realize there is unauthorized activity on your account. With online banking, you can avoid this problem.

Another wonderful aspect of online banking is the ability it affords you to pay your bills online as well. In fact, you can even set up your account to pay reocurring bills automatically, every month. This will keep you from having to sit down at your desk all throughout the month to write checks and address envelopes, and it will also keep you from forgetting when your bills are due.

And finally, online banking also keeps your bank from having to use so much paper. As we all make an effort to become more conscious of the environment, we need to all remember to do our part. While online banking might seem like a “little thing,” every little thing adds up! If everyone did the small things they could do to help, it would add up to make a big difference.

With most banks, it is very easy to sign up to do online banking. Consider looking into it if you have not started using it already! Not only will this allow your life to become a lot easier, but it will also allow the world to continue to become a much better place.
